Within the last decades, Dubai has become the leading regional business platform from which the local market, neighbouring Gulf countries and the greater region including India, Pakistan and Africa are serviced. With current capacity at the Dubai Airport’s Cargo Village at its limit, ADI was requested by the Department of Civil Aviation to develop a solution which would give the most flexibility and room for expansion of logistics services – thereby making sense of logistics.
ADI put customer and market requirements first. Relying on years of practical experience and based upon a comprehensive analysis of flows, processes, facilities, benchmarks and discussions with all type of users, ADI developed the concept for the world’s first really integrated logistics platform: The Dubai Logistics City. Located adjacent to the Jebel Ali Port and Free Zone, DLC has become the seed for the development of the 140 km2 Dubai South (DWC). After the Government decision in January 2005 to launch DLC, ADI led architects and urban planners to design the master plan for DLC and shared logistics facilities – with all attention focused on designing practical solutions, tailor-made for the air cargo and logistics industry.
Between 2005 and 2008 ADI exclusively performed business development for DLC, thereby signing up more than 100 logistics companies for direct investments of USD 3 bn. ADI support to DLC also included customer consulting, land lease contracting, activity licensing, facility planning, and continuous improvements to the DLC layout and phasing. In 2009, the first DLC tenants started their operations; in June 2010 the Al Maktoum International Airport was opened.
